Even if you’re new to watercolour, these workshops are a great opportunity to discover this richly rewarding art from with instruction from a true master. Born in Vancouver in 1956, Alex’s experiments with watercolour began after a course of study in interior design. From there, he developed and refined his style, which began in a traditional oriental vein and evolved into a kind of impressionistic, kaliediscopic approach. His recent work reflects what he calls a “blend of contemporary, oriental and impressionistic influences” conveying “a bouquet of wonder and whimsy”.
Alex’s watercolours have been exhibited across North America for nearly 30 years and his work is featured in both private and corporate collections throughout the continent.
We look forward to seeing you here at Summerland Waterfront Resort
for these very special engagements.

Whether you run, walk or crawl, the annual Giant’s Head Grind
, happening May 17, is a one-of-a-kind experience in Summerland. Scale Giant Head Mountain, Summerland’s volcanic landmark, on a course covering 5 kilometers and 500 meters of elevation.
Why would you make such an arduous journey? Well, if it’s not for the competition, personal development or amazing scenery, do it for a good cause. The race is organized by the Summerland Rotary Club, with proceeds donated to colon cancer diagnostics research. Partial proceeds will also be donated to the funding, upkeep and improvement of the trail system of Giant’s Head Park.
The Grind begins on the scenic shores of Okanagan Lake at Peach Orchard Beach. Participants will then follow the “beach-to-peak” course to the top of the mountain, covering the broad scope of Summerland’s amazing and diverse natural landscape.
To many, the Giant’s Head Grind is known as the Christopher Walker Memorial Race, conducted to raise awareness and funds for research into the disease that claimed his life in 2013. By encouraging outdoor exercise and promoting a healthy lifestyle, the race aims to honor Christopher’s memory and provide hope for those suffering from colon cancer.
More than 300 runners are expected to participate this year. There’s a lot to look forward to besides just the run. There will be a complimentary breakfast buffet, yoga in the park, and a post-race BBQ and awards ceremony.
closes after May 10, so don’t hesitate: go ahead and sign up! You can register as an individual or team. You can also make a donation, support an individual or team, or get a ticket for attending the BBQ only.
From everyone here at Summerland Waterfront Resort
we wish the Giant’s Head Grind participants the best of luck and offer our sincerest gratitude toward everyone supporting this very special cause.
