Here at Summerland Waterfront Resort, we’ll take any opportunity we can to boast about the amazing wines produced here in the Okanagan. But you don’t have to take our word for it. A recent readers poll by USA Today—the most widely read newspaper in America—ranks BC’s Okanagan Valley #2 in a list of the world’s 10 best wine regions to visit.

Readers ranked the Okanagan ahead of other world-class wine regions including the Napa Valley and Tuscany, Italy. The top rated was Alentejo, Portugal.

As BCTV reports, the Okanagan Wine Festivals Society called the ranking “a tremendous honour”. Indeed, it’s an honour for the Okanagan to simply have been included among the 10 nominees, which were selected for the quality and variety of their wines, the affordability of the region, the beauty of the scenery and the local cultural and recreational opportunities for visitors.

Other regions in the top 10 include Maipo, Chile; Marlborough, New Zealand; and Croatia

Now that we’ve got you excited about Okanagan wine, we invite you to come visit us and try all the amazing local wines for yourself. Take advantage of Summerland Resort's Bottleneck Drive or Naramata Bench wine tour packages which include visiting and sipping at five trending Okanagan wineries. Find out more

The most exciting food and wine event in the Okananan is around the corner.  Fall always marks a special time of the abundant harvest of grapes.  This October 3rd to 12th,  the Okanagan Fall Wine Festival features a lineup of events that are a celebration of food and outstanding wines. Local Lounge • Grille, Summerland Resort's neighbour, will be hosting an incredible evening of wine and fine cuisine on October 08 - visit our Facebook page for more details.

Just a few minutes from our Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa, down the winding back roads overlooking Lake Okanagan, you’ll find acre upon acre of lush vineyards. This is where Okanagan Crush Pad Winery produces some of British Columbia’s most distinctive and celebrated wines.

They call their products—which include the brands Haywire and Bartier Scholefield—“terroir-focused super-premium wines”, a description that speaks to the winery’s high-end resources and tireless attention to detail.

Their 35,000 case, small lot custom winemaking facility includes a state-of-the-art guest centre where, from June through September, visitors can get a firsthand look at the heart of the winery’s operations.

What sets Okanagan Crush Pad apart isn’t just the quality of their wines, it’s their love for the region and role in the local community.

In addition to producing great wine under their flagship brands, Okanagan Crush Pad offers a suite of services for local up-and-coming wineries, everything from winemaking to vineyard management.

They also do their part to help BC sommeliers further their futures in the industry. Every year, Okanagan Crush Pad’s Wine Campus program awards a scholarship of $5,000, donated to the BC Hospitality Foundation towards wine studies.

The Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa is pleased to serve Haywire, produced by Okanagan Crush Pad Winery, as our house wine for weddings, corporate events and banquets.. With tastings, dinners, picnics, patio parties, live music and more, the festival is a joyous celebration of this most welcome season in what could easily be called the winemaking capital of the country.

All manner of epicurean delights await you at the festival’s events, which take place all across the Okanagan from Kamloops to Osoyoos. Here in Summerland, home to some of the region’s top vintners, there are some marquee events that you won’t want to miss.

On May 1st, just before the festivities get into full swing, the Sleeping Giant Fruit Winery will be hosting their Taste of Spring event with picnics, local art exhibits and a showcase of their amazing fruit wines.

On Saturday, May 4, the 8th Generation Vineyard invites wine and cheese lovers to partake of this divine pairing with a guided introduction to the world of artisan cheeses. Learn a little about the history and process of cheese making as you sample some fine examples from around the world and pair them up with 8th Generation wine.

If you miss these events, you can always head over to Heaven’s Gate Estate Winery where, throughout the festival, they will be hosting daily tastings of their hand-crafted vintage from their gorgeous patio.
