Nobody needs to be convinced that the Okanagan is great summertime destination—after all, they don’t call this Summerland for nothing! But the truth is that the Okanagan Valley is, in fact, a fantastic year-round destination, offering some of its best recreation opportunities and special events during the winter months.

Once the snow starts to fall, there are few better places to take advantage of it than Apex Mountain Resort, considered one of the ‘hidden gems’ of Canadian skiing. Located just about an hour south of Summerland, this full-service ski resort is known for its healthy amount of feather-light ‘champagne powder’—a delight for discerning skiers and snowboarders. This powdery paradise is a product of the mountain’s geographic location, which has just the right mix of high precipitation and low humidity to make for fantastic ski conditions.

Here in Summerland, we welcome winter with the annual Festival of Lights, happening from November 28th to 30th. The lively and colourful outdoor festival features delicious carnival food, activities for kids, visits from Santa, art exhibits, and live entertainment including fire dancers, bands, choirs and dance troupes. It’s also a goldmine for Christmas shoppers, with many downtown businesses offering in-store specials during the event.

If you’re planning to visit for the Festival of Lights, you won’t want to miss Summerland Waterfront Resort’s Light Up the Vines event, when local Bottleneck Drive wineries welcome visitors for special winter tasting events. SWR’s Light Up the Vines getaway package is $249 for two adults, which includes one night in our luxurious bluff-view suite, two tickets to the Bottleneck Drive ‘twinkle tour’, shuttle transportation to each winery, $50 Local Lounge • Grille dinner credit and a bottle of wine and cheese plate in your room upon arrival.

Call us at 1-877-494-8111 to reserve your Light Up the Vines package. We recommend booking by November 15th to ensure availability.

We look forward to seeing you in Summerland this winter!

The Okanagan Valley is blessed with some incredible natural features that make it the envy of the rest of the country.  The valley receives an extraordinary amount of sunshine and mild winters, possesses beautiful mountain scenery and offers endless opportunities for outdoor recreation including water sports, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, cycling, fishing, boating and of course all things relating to locally grown food and wine.  And it’s only four hours from the cosmopolitan urban centre of Vancouver.  If you’ve spent time in the Okanagan Valley you’ll know intimately just why it has a countrywide reputation as one of the top travel destinations in Canada.

One unique feature of the valley is its plethora of lakes that run from south to north from Osoyoos to Vernon, the largest of which is Lake Okanagan.  For generations, people have flocked to Lake Okanagan’s shores for its amazing boating, fishing, swimming and recreational opportunities.  In fact, if you’re reading this, you may have just enjoyed some of these great recreational opportunities on the shores of Lake Okanagan at the Summerland Waterfront Resort and Spa!

Own a piece of paradise here at the Summerland Waterfront Resort

If you enjoyed your stay at our resort and can see the obvious merits of the Valley as a continuing destination for year round outdoor recreation, we have an opportunity for you to own a little piece of this paradise: you can purchase a suite at the Summerland Waterfront Resort.  Owning a suite at the Summerland Waterfront Resort means you will become an owner of one of the last available waterfront properties on Lake Okanagan.  If you’re looking for a great vacation home or a solid investment, or both, we encourage you to consider joining our group of 115 owners.

How it Works

Each suite at the Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa is individually owned.  As the investor, you purchase one of the suites (which come in a studio, one bedroom and two bedroom configuration) and then have the choice to participate in the “managed pool rental program” which professionally manages the renting of your suite to vacationers all year long, generating a stream of investment income!

Summerland Waterfront Resort with great views

Summerland Waterfront Resort room amenities

Of course, as the owner you have the option of using your suite for personal use anytime of the year.  Not only do you gain a solid investment in one of the most buoyant markets in the country, you also gain a great year round lakefront vacation space in beautiful Summerland BC.  As an additional perk, you’ll receive an exclusive membership in the Resort to Resort program, which allows you to exchange use of your rental property for other sought after resort hotels in Mexico, the U.S and Canada.

As a guest you’ve become intimately acquainted with what our resort has to offer: beautiful suites offering full kitchens, fireplaces, deep soaker tubs and memory foam mattresses set in a stunning natural setting close to the quaint Okanagan town of Summerland.  If you can see the potential benefits of owning your own slice of paradise, whether for personal use, as an investment or both, then contact Tom Matthews at 250.490.1482 or email him here.  Tom will be happy to provide you with further information about this exciting real estate opportunity in the heart of Canada’s sunny Okanagan Valley at the Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa.

We are also honored to have received a 2014 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and platinum-level GreenLeaders certification.

Honest feedback from our guests means a lot to us. So when reviewers speak up about their experience at the hotel, we take it seriously. Taking a wide range guest feedback into consideration, we have worked over the past six months to enhance our resort with fresh paint, new vinyl in the rooms and a variety of other improvements including:
  • New carpets throughout the resort, including many of our suites

“A Rare Gem in the South Okanagan” | Posted by SheldonKennedy on August 14, 2014
“We have been enjoying the Summerland Waterfront Resort for 8 years now and enjoyed every vacation. The leadership team and staff have created a wonderful experience for their guests here. The location is on a quiet protected bay on the water with excellent access for all types of water activities. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone interested in a high quality resort experience in the South Okanagan!”

“Lovely Resort in the Okanagan” | Posted by kateandgary on August 7, 2014
“Stayed in a beautiful one bedroom waterfront apartment. Fabulous view, extremely well equipped with great amenities ( including wonderful comfortable king sized bed) and furnishings. Very clean as well. Friendly and helpful staff and reception folks. We were visiting with family who had a two bedroom unit and the only bad thing about the holiday was that it was too short.
We would be delighted to host you and your family for a late-summer vacation this year, so book your stay with us today. Hope to see you here soon!
Just a few minutes from our Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa, down the winding back roads overlooking Lake Okanagan, you’ll find acre upon acre of lush vineyards. This is where Okanagan Crush Pad Winery produces some of British Columbia’s most distinctive and celebrated wines.
They call their products—which include the brands Haywire and Bartier Scholefield—“terroir-focused super-premium wines”, a description that speaks to the winery’s high-end resources and tireless attention to detail.
Their 35,000 case, small lot custom winemaking facility includes a state-of-the-art guest centre where, from June through September, visitors can get a firsthand look at the heart of the winery’s operations.
What sets Okanagan Crush Pad apart isn’t just the quality of their wines, it’s their love for the region and role in the local community.
In addition to producing great wine under their flagship brands, Okanagan Crush Pad offers a suite of services for local up-and-coming wineries, everything from winemaking to vineyard management.
They also do their part to help BC sommeliers further their futures in the industry. Every year, Okanagan Crush Pad’s Wine Campus program awards a scholarship of $5,000, donated to the BC Hospitality Foundation towards wine studies.
The Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa is pleased to serve Haywire, produced by Okanagan Crush Pad Winery, as our house wine for weddings, corporate events and banquets.. Host your banquet, meeting or Okanagan wedding with us and you’ll enjoy some of the finest wine in the province, produced right here in Summerland, BC.
For anyone visiting our resort on a wine vacation, Okanagan Crush Pad is a must-see winery, along with the other Bottleneck Drive wineries just minutes from our resort.
